Asia Nutrition Forum 2015

This year marked the tenth anniversary of the inaugural Asia Nutrition Forum (ANF). The 2015 edition was hosted in seven cities across Asia from 20 to 30 October: Seoul, Tokyo, Jakarta, Beijing, Changsha, Dhaka, and Coimbatore, with over 800 participants in total. The theme of this year’s ANF was “Challenge | Opportunity | Success,” and was focused on tackling the global mycotoxin menace, and achieving higher performance by optimising gut health amid increasing consumer concerns in safe and ethical meat production.

Innovative feed additives have become increasingly important to help overcome the increasing challenges faced by today’s livestock industry. Mycotoxin risk management, pathogen control, the elimination of AGP in animal production, and the pressure to use cheaper feed ingredients in feed production are some of the challenges the livestock industry stakeholders have to tackle.

With that in mind, “we always want to be a trusted partner for the agrofood industry to tackle the challenges with our innovative solutions,” said Dr Erich Erber, founder of BIOMIN, at the international stop in Jakarta.

Key industry professionals from the poultry, pig, and aquaculture sectors gathered to discuss issues faced by the food and agri-industry today. The forum showcased a high-level panel of renowned external industry experts, including:

  • Prof. David Hughes—Emeritus Professor of Food Marketing at Imperial College London, and Visiting Professor at the University of Kent Business School and at the Royal Agricultural College, UK
  • Prof. Julian Wiseman—Professor of Animal Production, University of Nottingham, UK
  • Michael Block--Livebird Production Manager, Tegel Foods Ltd, Christchurch, New Zealand
  • Prof. Charles Rangga Tabbu—Professor of Veterinary Pathology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta, Indonesia
  • Tony Edwards—Pig Nutrition and Production Consultant, ACE Livestock Consulting Pty Ltd, Australia
  • Dr. Jorge Cuéllar-Anjel—Project Director, Shrimp Pathology and Research, Camaronera de Coclé S.A. - CAMACO
  • Prof. Hansel D’souza—Professor, ACCS Mumbai, and Adjunct Professor at S P Jain Center for Management Dubai and Singapore

The forum concluded successfully on 30 October in Coimbatore, India, the last stop of ANF 2015.

Asia Nutrition Forum 2013

The forum catered specifically to the Asian audience, spanning six cities across Asia from 14 to 24 October 2013. The six cities were Qingdao, Guangdong, Ho Chi Minh City, Seoul, Tokyo and Hyderabad.

Since 2005, BIOMIN has been hosting its biennial Asia Nutrition Forum (ANF). Spanning 6 cities, the theme of the 2013 edition was“NutriEconomics® - Balancing Global Nutrition & Productivity”, with a focus on people, performance, profit and planet.

“Survival alone is not enough. We need to progress in order to feed an ever growing world population,” said Erich Erber, Founder of BIOMIN, Director of Executive Board.

He added, “Despite increasing crop yields and more advanced food production techniques, hunger and starvation are problems that still exist today. Where food needs are adequate, the right balance of nutrients is most important, especially for a young child.”

At the ANF, key industry professionals from the poultry, pig, dairy and aquaculture sectors gather to discuss issues faced by the food and agri-industry today. The forum saw a high-level panel of renown industry experts, including Mary Barton, Emeritus Professor at the University of South Australia; John Baize, President of John C. Baize and Associates; Robert Van Barneveld, Professor at the University of New England and Consultant Research Scientist (Nutrition) of Barneveld Nutrition Pty Ltd; and Leonardo Linares, Technical Service Nutritionist of Aviagen.

Asia Nutrition Forum 2011

The forum catered specifically to the Asian audience, spanning over six cities across Asia from 10 to 21 October 2011, from Cebu to Pattaya, Coimbatore, Chang Sha, Zheng Zhou and Tokyo. The theme of the forum was "Sustainability: defining the basics, addressing the essentials, introducing NutriEconomics®".

"The great challenge in agricultural science today is to produce sufficient food in a sustainable system that will feed the 9 billion people expected to be on this earth by 2050" said Professor David Farrell, a key speaker. "As the price of food escalates and food riots are happening amongst the poor, we must get smarter to meet the challenge. There are solutions and there will be costs."

With more people to feed and finite resources to depend on, the feed and animal production industry has to grow profitably without compromising the ability to meet future needs.

Targeting at key industry professionals from the poultry, pig, dairy and aquaculture sectors, the forum featured an impressive panel of leading industry experts like David Farrell, Professor from the University of Queensland; John Baize, President of John C. Baize and Associates; Robert Van Barneveld, Professor from the University of New England and Consultant Research Scientist (Nutrition) of Barneveld Nutrition Pty Ltd, and Maximilian Schuh, Consultant and experienced veterinarian in diseases of swine and cattle. Representing BIOMIN were Jan Vanbrabant, CEO of BIOMIN Asia; Guan Shu, Technical Manager of BIOMIN Asia; Jim He, Technical Nutrition Manager of BIOMIN Asia; Wolfgang Markert, Director Development Department of BIOMIN Holding GmbH and Franz Waxenecker, Director Innovation Management of BIOMIN Holding GmbH.
